Jack Devlin
Undergraduate Student | jack.devlin@student.fairfield.edu
I am a bioengineer that has a strong interest in applying biomechanics to the human body in order to learn more about its function. I am also interested in the biology aspect, where reading about genetics is something that I like to do in my free time. I first started doing research with Professor Macwan in Fall 2020 when I took his Biomedical Signaling Processing class. Our project was centered around observing the interactions between MutSbeta and a mismatched strand of DNA using visual molecular dynamics. This was a fun and amazing learning experience for me as I got to analyze DNA outside of the class. Other than doing research, I like to read, go to the gym, play soccer, and go to the movies. I plan to go to graduate school right away to get my masters in biomedical engineering. I would also like to eventually get a PhD in the same major.
Arjun Sudhalkar
High School Student | arjunsudhalkar@gmail.com
My name is Arjun Sudhalkar and I am a current high school Junior at Edison High School. My hobbies include doing math, playing soccer, and learning about various scientific processes. My future intended major is likely biomedical engineering on a pre-medical track. One of my future goals is to go to medical school and use my knowledge of science to help people and leave an impact on the world.
Shamrock Barrera
Undergraduate Student | shamrock.barrera@student.fairfield.edu
I joined the lab after Junior year when I wanted to get a better sense of how engineering research took place. I am currently an Electrical Engineering Major, who plans to eventually work in the electrical engineering research and development field to further work with nano electronic design.
Isabella Wolson
Undergraduate Student | iwolson@purdue.edu
I am a Chemical Engineering Undergrad at Purdue University. I have been working remotely with Prof. Macwan since April 2020, simulating the aggregation of amyloid beta proteins and analyzing its interactions with aggregation inhibiting nanomaterials (graphene oxide). After graduation this summer I will be pursuing my career in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry working full time as a Plant Engineer.
Brianna Duswalt
Undergraduate Student | brianna.duswalt@student.fairfield.edu
I joined the lab in Spring 2021, and I am a Biomedical Engineering major. I am also minoring in Mathematics and Spanish. I love traveling, and I am currently studying abroad in Galway, Ireland. One of my future goals is to help people around the world through device development.
Alexa Fiorica
Undergraduate Student | alexa.fiorica@student.fairfield.edu
Hello! I joined the lab in the Summer of 2021. I’m currently working with Dr. Macwan and Ryan on Inhibiting Interactions between NDPK-B and G Protein using Graphene Oxide, potentially reducing the risk of heart failure. I’m an Electrical Engineering Major, but I also enjoy playing lacrosse, running, and just being physically active. I’m pretty open-minded about what to do in the future. My interests range from telecommunications to machine learning, to data analysis.
Tanmay Mehta
Undergraduate Student, Webmaster | tsm93@cornell.edu
Tanmay is a Human Biology, Health, and Society major in the class of 2022 at Cornell University. He joined the Macwan Lab in the summer of 2020 and has enjoyed working on the Blood Brain Barrier project. He is interested in medical technology and research, and plans to continue his pursuits in medical school after graduation. Outside of the lab, he is involved with his project team and medical service clubs. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and playing the saxophone.
Jenna Madigan
Undergraduate Student | jenna.madigan@student.fairfield.edu
Hi everyone! I'm Jenna, a senior biomedical engineering major at Fairfield University with minors in Mathematics and Health Studies. I began working with Dr. Macwan in the Fall of 2020 on the DNA Repair Project. Outside of school and research, I enjoy exercising, walks on the beach, playing with my dog, and spending time with my friends. In the future, I hope to pursue a career in medical devices while attaining an MS or Ph.D. in BME.
Ryan Jaworski
Undergraduate Student | ryan.jaworski@student.fairfield.edu
I am currently a freshman biomedical engineer who joined the lab September of this fall. Some of my favorite hobbies include hiking, playing basketball, and spending time at the beach. My future goals after graduation are to pursue a graduate degree in biomedical engineering or to attend medical school.
Ky Duyen Le
Undergraduate Student | kyduyen.le@student.fairfield.edu
I am a senior biomedical engineering major. I have been researching on synthesizing nanofibrous polymeric substrates for wound healing applications with Dr. Macwan since summer of 2021. I found the topic interesting and by doing research, I would be able gain more hand on experience. Other than doing research, I am also a production engineering intern at PerkinElmer, where I assist testing and troubleshooting, as well as writing and updating photodocs. In my free time, I like to hang out with friends and family, hiking, baking, painting, and trying new food! Please visit my Linkedin.
Chizimuzo Chibuko
Undergraduate Student | chizimuzo.chibuko@student.fairfield.edu
My name is Chizimuzo Chibuko and I am a senior biomedical engineering major at Fairfield University with minors in Mathematics and Biochemistry. I started working with Dr. Macwan on the Blood-Brain Barrier Project at the start of the Fall semester of 2021. Our project focuses on attaining a computational understanding of the interaction between Gabapentin and LAT1 protein. Outside of the lab, I love singing with the Glee club and organizing events on campus. After graduation, I plan to pursue a career focusing on medical devices and biomaterials. I hope to eventually earn my master’s or Ph.D. in biomedical engineering.
